Swatch Attribute Pictures

Swatch Attribute Pictures

Swatch images are pictures which represent a product attribute, but when the swatch image is clicked the enlarged picture portrays a different image, usually one which shows the attribute being applied to the product itself. A common example is the color attribute for t-shirts. The swatch images are simply blocks of pure color, and when clicked the enlarged picture shows a t-shirt of that color.
SAPs can be set up as follows:
  • Firstly, make sure you have already set up the attribute and attribute options in the native attributes setup section of your shopping cart's admin component.
  • In the upload section, click on the 'Create swatch' checkbox and select the existing native attribute name to which you'd like to apply the swatches from the dropdown directly below.
  • For each attribute option, you will be required to upload two files - the 'Swatch File' (which will be the thumbnail) and the Enlarged File (which is the enlarged image).
  • You can choose to watermark either the swatch image, the enlarged image, or both. Watermarking takes place during upload.
  • Once uploading is complete, you will be able to view both swatch and enlarged images for each option by clicking the 'Swatch' and 'Enlarged' icons for each attribute option in the main attribute listing for the product.
Some points to remember about swatch images:
  • Swatch thumbnails can be used in conjunction with CSS tooltips, and the enlarged images can be used with Javascript Popups and Popup galleries.
  • It is possible to mix swatch and non-swatch attributes for the same product.
